Veronica Edmilao, ELICOS Teacher

Hey everyone,

My name’s Veronica and here at Salisbury College Australia, I teach general English classes. First and foremost, welcome to SCA! You’ve made an excellent choice choosing to invest in yourself with learning a new language.

I’m from a Filipino background where English is the second official language of our country. Even at the early stage of my life, English has been taught to us as not only as a second language but is also used as a medium of instruction. I was a very passionate writer in my youth, and it is through reading and writing that I’ve pursued a degree in English Language and Literature studies. It was only during my fourth year of college that my interest in teaching began.

After finishing my undergraduate degree, I taught Business English, Research Writing, and Effective Speech Communication in a classroom setting. Meanwhile, I taught English to Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese students online over two years. Because I wanted to better equip myself with more knowledge teaching methodologies, I pursued a postgraduate degree in Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Macquarie University and finished my studies on December of 2017.

Learning a language—particularly English—is extremely important because no successful communication or relationship-building can occur without it. Right now, English is universal. What this means is that you have a significant advantage because English is tool used to connect with other nationalities both online and offline. Communication and connection are the main keys to succeed in all aspects of life, whether it is for leisure, travelling, work, further studies… you name it!

Do you want to know the secret to learning a language? Combine your learning escapade with something you love to do in your daily life! Watch a movie, read a book, surf the internet, talk to locals, play online games… the possibilities are endless! Always remember that learning is the key to self-improvement and a gateway to a better understanding of our world. As your teacher, I am here to help you every step of the way.

You’re never too old to start learning, and you’re never too young to aim high and achieve great things.

Yours sincerely,

Veronica Edmilao
