This course is designed for students who are looking to improve their Academic English skills to progress into a vocational or tertiary qualification later. We have vocational programs in place in which students can progress into the course after the completion of their Academic English studies. Students are provided with exemplary supplementary material for further learning and development.

This course is built around the aim to expand the macro-skills in an academically oriented fashion. The course aims are :

  • Achieving University-level English
  • Improving note-taking skill during lecture contexts
  • Building summary, report, and essay writing
  • Developing academic thinking and vocabulary expansion skill

Entry Requirements

Entry
Academic English 1: Intermediate
Entry Level – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5 OR General English Intermediate successful completion certificate.

Academic English 2: Upper Intermediate
Entry Level – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5.5 OR General English Upper Intermediate.

Academic English 3: Advanced
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6 OR General English Advanced successful completion certificate.

Course Structure

Academic English Intermediate-1Early progression can occur after a student has completed 4 weeks of a level and attained a minimum mark of 66% on their exams as an average. They will need to be able to complete the final exam for that level and pass with minimum mark 66% to progress to the next level.

Program duration

A full course will include Total Course Duration:
48 weeks, which includes:

  • Study Period: 40 weeks
  • Holiday Breaks: 8 weeks

Mode of Study and Attendance

Our classes are 20 hours a week, face to face classroom based teaching, that requires that our students attend a minimum of 80% of all their classes. We do not offer online or distance based learning or teaching for English Courses.

Award

On successful completion of the course, students will obtain an Academic English Certificate of Achievement for their course, provided that the student has the following requirements:

  • 80% attendance
  • 66% on exam marks on average for all the exams.

Class Sizes

Each class has a student capacity of 18 students. Smaller classes allow the teacher to focus individually on each student on a much deeper level, taking into account their individual learning needs.

Course Credits

Salisbury College Australia does not grant course credits for domestic or international students for any English courses.

Timetable Options

We offer two different timetable options, to suit our student’s needs and preferences. We offer 2 types of shifts: morning or evening shift. Classes will open based on the number of students.
